This course will provide an introduction to techniques and technology of computer-based music. Participants will learn how to create beats, program synthesizers, manipulate samples, and sequence MIDI data to compose electronic music tracks. After completing this course, participants will have a basic understanding music production software and resources for future learning.

Requirements: Participants must have their own laptop and will need to download required software.

This course is taught by Matthew Nelson, an English Language Fellow in Pokhara, Nepal. Originally from California, Matthew has lived in over a dozen cities in the U.S. and abroad. He has taught English as a Second Language in a variety of contexts, including at public schools and adult education programs in the U.S., at a program for military officers in Lithuania, and as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Russia. He has an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University and a B.A. in Foreign Languages from Lewis and Clark College. In addition to teaching English, Matthew produces electronic music and does freelance video editing.
